What is important to note is that Heron, Wells, and Brown lived only 15 miles north of the murder victims. Heron didn’t actually live on his farm property, as it was up for sale at the time and he lived in southern California; rather, his neighbors watched over the property. What was troublesome were the sounds heard by Wells and Brown from Heron’s property on the morning of August 2, 1998, a mere three days before the murder of the Kolesnikows- gunshots. Wells and Brown say they heard gunshots on their neighbor’s property, an indication that someone was trespassing on Heron’s land. The peculiar case of the heard gunshots doesn’t stop that morning, however. The following weeks and month were full of strange occurrences on Heron’s property.

In the following month proceeding the gunshots heard from Heron’s property, Wells and Brown reveal a slew of strange happenings on the property: the appearance of a couple gasoline tanks stored in the shed behind the barn, the coming and going of the same two cars from the property, and the morning of the Kolesnikows’ murder, the disappearance of the gasoline tanks. Despite all of these mysterious things occurring on their neighbor’s property, neither Wells nor Brown called Heron to tell him about them.

Later in these episodes, we are told about the relationship between Heron and Lance; Lance was a friend of Heron’s, going over to Heron’s property often to spend time with his friend and, surely enough, practice target shooting. Wells and Brown didn’t know Lance personally, but had seen him before at their neighbor’s house when he would go there to practice shooting. What is interestingly revealed is that Wells and Brown didn’t reveal any of these details to the authorities until after the authorities posted a reward for any information that might give a lead on the investigation of the murder of the Kolesnikows. The episodes end with a cliffhanger: the discovery of the possible murder weapon over a month after the murders, on a farm mere miles away from the scene of the crime, and how this weapon is possibly linked to the prime suspect of this case: Greg Lance.

The first of these episodes mimics the tone set in the previous episodes; suspenseful background music plays while different narrators, both male and female, take turns describing the chain of events that ultimately lead to the arrest of Greg Lance. The narrators are the same as the previous episode, which bring a familiarity to the listener and make it easier to remember and pick up from where the listener left off from the last time. The second episode, however, starts differently, as the listener is being taken on a car ride with two of the narrators to visit Heron’s property and check out the surrounding areas of where the murder weapon was found and to see for themselves how the physical location matches what Heron, Wells, and Brown all had to say. This episode is more relaxed, as instead of new information being presented in the beginning, listeners are taken along with the narrators on a little adventure and are listening to the casual conversation between the narrators.

Between these episodes of Undisclosed, there is an addendum episode where the narrators come together to talk about the details discussed in the previous episode. This addendum episode provides a chance for listeners to gain clarity and refresh their memory on what was just discussed and disclosed in the previous episode. The episode has a more relaxed demeanor, as it is a casual conversation among the narrators and there is no background music playing and no sound effects to add dramatic and suspenseful elements, as there are in the episodes.

These episodes of Undisclosed were interesting; not only because they continued in the details of the story of the murder, but because they had different styles. The change in style of how information was presented, and the break in presenting information and taking listeners along to visit the places talked about in the podcast kept me interested in listening and made me feel like I was a part of the investigation, learning and observing new things as the narrators were discovering them. I am eager to see how the rest of the details line up and play out in the story, and am curious as to how the narrators will next present the rest of the evidence and information.

word count: 802

In these episodes of Undisclosed: State v Greg Lance, we learn more details about the days leading up to the murders, the neighbors of the victims, and are even taken on a trip with the…

[1
23
post-386","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-engl200c
["GET
